2018-19 School Year Theme: TRUST

A Letter from our Pastor

Dear Parishioners, especially the families of St. Brendan School and PSR, Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year as we once again anchor ourselves in Faith, Belief and Tradition. Thank you for choosing a Catholic education at St. Brendan. Our Spiritual Theme for this year comes from a biography on St. Brendan the Navigator entitled, A Desert in the Ocean. In this work our patron saint is quoted as saying, “Have no fear. God is our helper. He is our captain and guide and will steer us out of danger. Just leave the sails and let Him do as He wills with His servants in their boats.” Our St. Brendan is the patron of many occupations and promotes the life of Christian virtue in several ways. He is known to be the one who helps in times of fear and instills fearlessness. After all, he made a tiny boat with his own bare hands, put it in a large and vast ocean, and set course for an unknown destination. His adventures brought grand stories of many strange and different lands and peoples. He left behind, in the hearts of those whom he encountered, his much loved faith in Christ. These words attributed to our patron saint will shape our theme this year especially as his words will help us to venture into the waters of the virtue of TRUST. My prayer is that the students in our school and PSR program will learn how to trust Jesus through the Sacraments we celebrate, the works of service we do, the life of prayer that we offer, the course of work that we study. My prayer is that as their parents and family, you will experience trust in the Lord as well. As our Eucharistic Prayer that we hear Sunday after Sunday offers: “God, Almighty Father, we give you thanks and praise always and everywhere…” I hope that in all your blessings you trust in Jesus enough to offer gratitude and thanks. I pray that in all the challenging moments of your life, the way things do not go your way, the frustrations, the burdens you will trust Jesus to navigate you through to calmer waters and secure shores. As your spiritual fathers, your parish priests, please do not hesitate to call on Fr. Terry or myself if there is any way we can offer you spiritual support and guidance this year. Together let us trust in the Lord. We hold you in our daily prayer, and we ask that you pray daily for your parish school and your parish school of religion (PSR).

Peace in Christ,

Fr. Tom Woost
